OUR TECHNOLOGY

Introducing a new style of glove featuring an open index fingertip and thumb tip design. This unique accessory, enhances usability with touchscreens, tools, equipment, keys, buttons, coins, and a million more everyday uses.

Our patented high-quality gloves come in two materials:

  • The first is a Wool Blend Yarn, providing extra warmth and natural comfort. We have added non-toxic silicone grips to these gloves for a stronger hold
  • The second is Foam Nitrile which provides a strong grip in both wet and dry environments. These synthetic rubber gloves offer good hand protection, durability, and comfort.
  • When you need to use your finger or thumb simply retract the yarn or rubber at the tip to your preferred depth. Once you’re finished, pull it back up and continue on your way.

OUR STORY BY DARRYL ABRAHMS

The Circumstances

I went backpacking near the Pacific Crest Trail in eastern Washington in early May 2012. During my hike I wore a regular pair of foam nitrile gloves to provide comfort, protection and better grip on my hiking poles. While walking I enjoyed listening to an audiobook on my mobile device.

The Problem

However when I wanted to repeat a section of audio for better understanding, I quickly realized that I couldn’t operate the player while wearing my gloves. It required me to remove one of my gloves from the strap of my hiking pole, and then remove the glove from my hand in order to use the touchscreen with my bare finger. When this was done, I had to reverse the process. This frequent inconvenience was time consuming and frustrating, often forcing me to stop walking just to complete this operation.

The Solution

To address this issue I decided to take action. I removed the glove from my hand and used the scissors on my Swiss army knife to snip the tip off the index finger area of the glove. This modification allowed me to operate my mobile device without having to take off my gloves. With direct contact between my skin and the touchscreen surface, my fingertip became more accurate, significantly enhancing my experience while listening to the audiobook and walking.

Driven by my curiosity I delved into further research to explore other ways to adapt the gloves. I discovered that the thumb is considered the “power digit” as it enables users to do things like operating a cell phone with one hand. Utilizing this insight, I incorporated an open thumb tip design into the gloves to improve usability across different devices, tools, equipment, keys, buttons, zips, maps, coins and millions more.

This innovative solution led to the creation of Trutaj, and the design was successfully patented, marking a significant milestone in my journey.

{I have been in the outdoor industry for well over 25 years instructing and recommending products to my students. I have tried several different gloves and never have found a more useful glove than the TRUTAJ. These gloves are durable, lightweight, comfortable and above all affordable. If you need to have the ability to use a touch screen either on a cell phone, Camera, Compass or on a GPS these gloves are perfect for that. I noted that when I hike using these gloves I could easily snap a photograph of a animal without having to remove the gloves and risk missing the photo opportunity which is a important part to hiking and capturing the beauty in nature. {I’m on record as a huge fan of trekking poles. I can’t count how many stumbles I’ve avoided on the John Muir Trail because of them. That doesn’t mean that they don’t have certain disadvantages. One of those disadvantages is that they take a toll on your hands, particularly if you use them properly (i.e., if you slip your hands up through the loops so that the pressure applied to the poles is transferred to the meaty part of your hands and your wrists, not your fingers). The straps can rub against bare skin, the fore-and-aft swing of the poles can irritate the inside of your palm, and your hands will be horizontal—thus exposing them to sunburn. Read More.

{I just completed my thirteenth John Muir Trail and this time, instead of my usual full-fingered bike gloves, I took along a pair of  TRUTAJ gloves. In the past, I always found that my hands and the trekking poles were a sweaty, slippery mess when hiking for days in the warm Sierra Nevada mountains with trekking poles, but with TRUTAJ gloves, this was not the case. They have a strong grip and were comfortable to use with hiking poles. The TRUTAJ felt cool, especially when dunked in water, with the breathable mesh top acting as an air-conditioning unit.
